Private Label Portable Power Station: Branding, Packaging, Certification
Private label portable power station supply is a manufacturing arrangement, not a product category: you specify which parts of the unit carry your brand, and everything else stays on the factory platform underneath. The boundary sits in four places — print and housing colour, the rating label and manual, the retail packaging, and the test file behind the model. Change the first three and you have your own brand on an existing design. Change the cell, the BMS or the inverter and you have a new model that needs its own reports. Most disputes come from not deciding which group you are in before tooling starts.
Where the line falls between private label, OEM and ODM
The three terms get used interchangeably in supplier catalogues, which is why quotes come back incomparable. They describe three different amounts of engineering work. Private label is the lightest: the unit is an existing, already-tested design, your brand goes onto the print, label, manual and carton, and no electrical parameter moves, so the underlying reports still describe the goods. OEM usually means the buyer drives the specification — a particular cell, output set or enclosure — and the factory builds to it. ODM means the factory owns the design and offers it to several brands at once.
The practical test is a single question: after my changes, is this still the model that was tested? If yes, you are buying private label. If no, you are buying a new model and should budget for the testing that follows.
What your logo can go on, and what it cannot
On a platform unit, brandable surfaces are more limited than a mock-up suggests:
- Housing print. Silk screen or UV print on the shell. Position, size and colour are constrained by existing tooling.
- Housing colour. Often a moulding or painting option; whether it is stock or a new run depends on the part and quantity.
- Rating label. The one element that is not purely cosmetic — input, output, capacity and warnings must match the tested ratings exactly.
- Manual and quick-start card. Language set and layout are yours, within the constraint that safety text still describes the real product.
- Retail carton and inserts. Fully brandable, and usually the cheapest visible change per unit.
What a logo does not change is the engineering underneath. A brand on the shell does not move the surge limit, the MPPT window or the cycle life. Say so plainly to your own customers, because over-claiming on a relabelled unit is the fastest route to a return.
Packaging and documentation carry more weight than buyers expect
Packaging is where private label portable power station projects quietly succeed or fail, and three details decide whether a container clears customs and retail intake without a reprint. The label content has to match the model it is stuck to, so a run mixing two capacities needs a scheme that distinguishes them rather than averaging them. The manual language set has to cover the destination market, and safety warnings do not survive loose translation. Carton markings — model, capacity, quantity, gross weight, origin — need to agree with the commercial invoice, because that is the comparison a customs officer actually makes.
Ask for the packaging artwork proof separately from the unit price. If the factory can show a proof with your model number and capacity already placed, the step is real. If artwork only appears after the deposit, the schedule risk is yours.
Certification follows the configuration, not the brand
A test report is issued against a specific configuration: a specific cell, BMS, inverter board and output arrangement. Put a different brand on the label and the configuration has not changed, so the report still applies. Change the configuration and it does not.
Ownership is a separate question from validity. Who appears as applicant or holder varies by scheme and by who files. A private label agreement does not automatically transfer a certificate to the brand, and a factory cannot hand over a holder position it does not control. Ask which reports exist for the exact configuration you are ordering, and in whose name they were filed, before you print anything.
| What you change | What it touches | Effect on the test file |
|---|---|---|
| Logo print on the housing | Cosmetic surface only | No change — same tested unit |
| Housing colour | Moulding or paint finish | No change if material and part are unchanged |
| Rating label and manual | Documents supplied with the unit | No change, but label values must match tested ratings |
| Retail carton and inserts | Packaging | No change |
| Output socket type or count | AC output stage | New configuration — report may not cover it |
| Cell, BMS or inverter rating | Core electrical design | New configuration — new reports needed |
The platform sets how much room you have. A small unit is the cheapest place to learn the process: the 200W portable power station runs a 192Wh LiFePO4 pack with a 200W rated inverter and a 200W surge window held for 200ms, enough to test label and carton artwork at low cost. Moving up, the 600W portable power station carries 576Wh, three AC outlets and a 1200W surge allowance for 200ms, and the 1000W portable power station carries 960Wh across four AC outlets with a 300W solar input ceiling. The full portable power station range shows which capacities sit on which platform.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the minimum order for a private label portable power station?
It tracks the change list, not a fixed number. A run that only changes print, label and carton is the smallest commitment, because the factory builds a stock unit with a different skin. Changing the housing colour, adding an enclosure part or altering the output set carries tooling and scheduling cost, so the quantity needed rises. Send the change list and have it quoted item by item.
Does a private label deal make me the certificate holder?
Not automatically. Whether a brand can be named as applicant or holder depends on the scheme, on who files, and on the arrangement with the factory. Treat holder status as something to negotiate in writing, not something that arrives with the logo.
Can I change the AC output configuration?
Yes, and it moves you out of private label into a configuration change. Socket type, socket count and output rating are part of the tested electrical design, so the new arrangement needs its own reports. Plan the testing before you plan the launch date.
How long does a private label run take compared with buying stock?
Print and packaging work is quoted and proofed separately, so it adds a step ahead of production rather than inside it. The variable that actually moves the date is artwork approval, which is why asking for a proof early is worth more than asking for a shorter lead time.
If you are weighing a private label run against an OEM project, send the change list and the destination market together — those two facts decide most of the cost. You can contact our energy storage manufacturer team with both, and we will come back with what changes, what does not, and which reports already exist for the configuration.
